Learn about the modules available in each account type; main admin, admin, teacher, student, and family.

Account Types

There are five account types in Otus: Main Admin, Admin, Teacher, Student, and Family. There are a total of 16 modules within Otus. Some are unique to certain account types, while others are shared across account types.

Activity Dashboard

Available In: Main Admin, Admin

Primary Use: To view high level insights in the form of interactive charts as to how the district is using Otus.


District

Available In: Main Admin, Admin

Primary Use: Searching for teachers and students, as well as controlling district student groups, teacher groups, and recognitions

Specific Functions:

  • Search for all sites, teachers, and students across the entire district

  • Create or edit student groups, teacher groups and recognitions.

  • An admin account has the same functionality as the Main Admin account, but only for the sites they have permissions for (not the entire district).

Home

Available In: Teacher, Student

Primary Use: A notification feed for class activity, as well as the To Do list

Specific Functions:

  • Receive notifications for assessments, lessons, class board, recognitions, and blogs.

  • Assessments and lessons that still require action are located on the To Do list on the right side of the page.

Activity

Available In: Family

Primary Use: A notification feed for class activity, as well as the To Do list

Specific Functions:

  • Receives notifications for assessments, lessons, class board, recognitions, and blogs.

  • Assessments and lessons that still require action are located on the To Do list on the right side of the page.

Analytics

Available In: Main Admin, Admin, Teacher,

Primary Use: Viewing and analyzing student data

Specific Functions:

  • The Main Admin account will have access to 3rd Party Assessments, Attendance, Recognitions, Assessments given in Otus, Standards, Report Cards, Queries, Historical Reports, and Exports for all students in the district

  • Admin accounts will have access to 3rd Party Assessments, Attendance, Recognitions, Assessments given in Otus, Standards, Report Cards, Queries and Historical Reports for all students they have permissions for.

  • Teacher accounts will have access to 3rd Party Assessments, Attendance, Recognitions, Assessments given in Otus, and Standards for students in the classes they teach.

💡 Tips:

  • If you are unsure about uploading 3rd Party data, please reach out to your Otus Client Experience Partner or to our support team using the chat feature.

  • 3rd Party data uploads are typically done from the Main Admin account or by the Client Data Team at Otus, and less from Admin or Teacher accounts.

Classes

Primary Use: For the Main Admin, Admin, and Teacher accounts, the primary uses are related to classroom management, student groups, recognitions, participation, parent communication, and others. For Student and Family accounts, the primary use is to access the Class Board.

Specific Functions:

  • Main Admins, Admins, and Teachers can view class lists, student profiles, assign student groups, assign recognitions, view the Class Board, view the Mailbox, and view Class Information

  • Students and Families will have a tile for each of their classes; clicking on the tile will take them to the Class Board.

My Students

Available In: Family

Primary Use: For family members to access specific information regarding each of the students linked to their account

Specific Functions:

  • A tile shows for each student linked to their account.

  • The plus (+) and minus (-) icons indicate positive and negative recognitions.

  • Selecting the profile picture or name will show that student's list of classes.


Lessons

Available In: Main Admin, Admin, Teacher, Student

Primary Use: To create a series of activities for students to complete

Specific Functions:

  • Main Admin, Admin and Teachers can create, preview, and view assigned lessons.

  • Students can complete lessons assigned to them.

💡 Tip: The development team is working on making the Lessons module available for family accounts. Stay tuned!

Bookshelf

Primary Use: For teachers to upload and share resources with their students

Specific Functions:

  • Main Admins, Admins, and Teachers can upload resources, organize them into folders, and share resources with students and teachers.

  • Students can upload resources, organize them into folders, and share resources with other teachers (not other students).

  • Families can view the resources that are on their student's bookshelf.

Assessments

Available In: Main Admin, Admin, Teacher, Student

Primary Use: To create, assign, and grade assessments that measure student growth.

Specific Functions:

  • Main Admins, Admins, and Teachers can create, assign, and grade assessments, as well as send copies of individual assessments to other users.

  • Main Admins and Admins can share assessment folders with other users.

  • Students can complete assessments assigned to them.

Gradebook

Primary Use: Entering and viewing grades to measure student growth or overall performance.

Specific Functions:

  • Main Admins, Admins, and Teachers can view the gradebook, and plus assessments, enter grades, and filter the gradebook, as well as add comments to the assessments view of the gradebook.

  • Students and Families can view and filter the gradebook, as well as view comments.

💡 Tips

  • Otus has two gradebook views the assessments view and the standards view.

  • Districts have the option to make both available, or choose to have one or the other.

  • The gradebook looks different in student and family accounts than it does for teachers and admins.

Reports

Available In: Student, Family

Primary Use: Viewing student results from 3rd Party assessments (such as NWEA, IAR, SBAC etc.).

Specific Functions:

  • Students and Families can view any data attached to their account that has been uploaded to 3rd Party.

❗ This tab may not be available in all student/family accounts. The availability of this tab is controlled by the district. Plans

Available In: Main Admin, Admin, Teacher

Otus Plans allows educators to design individualized learning plans for each student and track their progress throughout the year.

Blog

Primary Use: For teachers and students to have informal, conversational-style communication

Specific Functions:

  • Main Admins, Admins, and Teachers can create, view, and comment on blog posts, as well as adjust settings related to permissions.

  • Students can create and view blog posts, as well as leave comments if the teacher enabled the comments setting. Students can also mark their blog post private, so only the teacher can see it.

  • Families can view blog posts created by their student or student's teacher.

💡 Tip: Families can only see blog content created by the teacher or their own student(s). They are unable to see posts or comments made by other students.

Portfolio

Available In: Student, Family

Primary Use: A place to collect pieces of student work, including assessments, blog posts, artifacts, and file uploads

Specific Functions:

  • Main Admins, Admins, and Teachers can add items to the portfolio, view items in the portfolio, and comment on items in the portfolio

  • Students can add items to their portfolio and comment on them

  • Families can view their student's portfolio.

💡 Tips:

  • While the Portfolio Module is only available in student and family accounts, teachers also have access to the portfolios. They are located in the student profile.

  • Main Admin, Admin, Teacher, and Student accounts can add information to the portfolio.

  • Family accounts are unable to add content to the portfolio.

Control Center

Available In: Main Admin

Primary Use: To control district-wide settings

Specific Functions:

  • The Main Admin can control grading scales, mastery settings, standards, admin user permissions, student profile pictures, family information, grading periods, and integrations.

💡 Tip: Many of these settings are determined during Onboarding with the help of your Otus Technology Coach. If you have questions regarding your district's specific use of these settings, please reach out to your Otus Technology Coach or the Support Team using the chat feature.

Help

Available In: Main Admin, Admin, Teacher, Family

Primary Use: To access our Knowledge Base of help articles

Specific Functions:

  • Selecting this module takes users to a separate webpage where they can search through our Knowledge Base. It is the same experience for all account types.

💡 Tip: Users can reach out to our Support Team without needing to go to the Help module - just look for the chat icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
