Account Types Overview

Learn about the modules available in each account type; main admin, admin, teacher, student, and family.

Written by Monica Burke

Otus is designed to serve every member of your school community, from district leaders to students and families. To make sure each user sees only what's relevant to them, Otus organizes access into five account types: Main Admin, Admin, Teacher, Student, and Family. Each account type has access to a specific set of modules that align with their role and responsibilities. Understanding the differences helps districts set up accounts correctly and helps users get the most out of Otus from day one.

🔑 Account Type Access

🚪Why Account Type Matters

Otus account types are designed to make sure every user. From the superintendent to a kindergartener, access has to meet exactly what they need, and nothing they don't.

  • 🎯 Role-appropriate access: Each account type surfaces only the tools and data relevant to that user's role.

  • 🔒 Data privacy: Students and families only see information tied to their own account.

  • 📊 District-wide visibility: Admins and Main Admins can monitor performance across classrooms and buildings without disrupting teachers or students.

  • 🤝 Family engagement: Family accounts keep parents connected to student progress without requiring direct access to teacher tools.

  • ⚙️ Flexible configuration: Main Admins can control permissions and settings for all account types from the Control Center.

🏫 The Account Types

      • View analytics and gradebook data for their assigned buildings

      • Enter and manage grades in the gradebook

      • Track student growth across standards and assignments

🎒 Student

  • The Student account gives students access to the tools they need to complete their work and track their own progress in Otus.

    • Primary Uses:

      • Complete assigned assessments and lessons

      • Access class resources via the Bookshelf

      • View gradebook scores and feedback

      • Build and manage their Portfolio

👨‍👩‍👧 Family

  • The Family account is designed to keep parents and guardians informed and connected to their student's progress in Otus.

    • Primary Uses:

      • View their student's gradebook, portfolio, and class activity

      • Monitor notifications and to-do items via the Activity feed
