Learning is more than just grades. It’s about building real-world skills and tracking growth over time. The Skills-Based Portfolio brings this to life by giving students and teachers a space to showcase meaningful work aligned to district-selected skills. Artifacts are tagged with the skills they demonstrate, along with reflections on the learning process. It’s a powerful way to promote ownership, celebrate progress, and showcase learning. In this article, you’ll get an overview of the Skills-Based Portfolio's key features and learn where to find detailed instructions for each task.

🔑 Key Features

Artifacts

Teachers and students upload these work samples, such as docs, images, and links that showcase specific skills.

Skills

Tag each artifact with one or more skills.

Reflections

Add a text, audio, or video reflection to highlight the learning process.

Filtering & Search

Teachers and students can quickly locate artifacts by title, skill, or school year.

Growth Over Time

The Skills-Based Portfolio serves as an ongoing collection of learning, preserving student artifacts across school years to illustrate skill development over time.

Portfolio Access

  • Admins have visibility into the number of artifacts uploaded, organized by grade level and site. They do not have access to view, upload, or manage individual artifacts.

  • Teachers can access the portfolios of any student they currently teach to add, edit, delete, and view artifacts.

  • Students can manage their own portfolios by adding new artifacts, editing existing ones, and reflecting on work they or their teachers have added.

⚙️ How It Works

  • Work with your Otus Client Experience Partner to configure district-specific skills and activate the Skills-Based Portfolio.

  • Both students and teachers can upload artifacts, tag them with the district-specific skills, and add reflections to document the learning process.

  • Color-coded skill tags provide a clear visual of which competencies are being demonstrated.

  • In terms of ownership and access, students can edit or delete any artifacts they’ve added, while teachers can manage the ones they’ve contributed.
