🎯 Purpose

The Skills-Based Portfolio allows teachers to store, view, and manage student work artifacts that demonstrate progress toward your district's skills. This guide walks you through how to view, add, edit, and delete artifacts in an individual student's portfolio.

💡 Why Use This Feature?

  • Upload evidence of student learning and connect it directly to skills.

  • Track student growth and proficiency over time through collected artifacts.

  • Add reflections (written, audio, or video) to provide meaningful context for each piece of work.

  • Add the same artifact to multiple students in a class at once to save time

  • Maintain an organized, searchable record of student work throughout the school year.

👀 View an Artifact

Step 1: Click on a student's name in the class list to open their Skills-Based Portfolio.

Step 2: Locate the artifact in one of the following ways:

  • Option 1: Search - type three or more consecutive characters of the title.

  • Option 2: Skills List - click a Skill to see linked artifacts.

  • Option 3: Scroll - use the scroll bar to look through all artifacts. Note: If the student has more than five artifacts, use the page numbers at the bottom to navigate.

💡 Tip: By default, only artifacts from the current school year will be shown. Use the drop-down menu to adjust the school year.

Step 3: Click on the artifact you want to view. Then, click directly on the attachment.

💡 Tip: You can also view student artifacts directly from the Student Profile. In the Content section, the three most recently added artifacts are displayed. Click View All Artifacts to open the student’s full Portfolio.

➕ Add an Artifact

You can add artifacts for students individually, or you can add artifacts for multiple students in a class at once.

Add Artifact for an Individual Student

Select the appropriate student from your student list and click + Add Artifact.

Step 1: Add File

  • Upload the artifact (File, Google Drive, or Microsoft OneDrive).

  • Add a Name for the artifact.

  • Select the School Year (default is the current year).

  • Click Next.

Step 2: Select Skills

  • Select one (or more) Skills that apply to the artifact.

  • Click Next.

💡 Tip: Use the button if you're unsure which skills to select.

Step 3: Write or Record a Reflection

Write or record the reason why this particular piece of student work was added to the portfolio and then click Add Artifact. When adding a reflection, you can:

  • Submit one reflection per type (written, audio, or video) for each artifact.

  • Add an artifact without a written reflection if you provide an audio or video reflection instead.

  • Include recorded audio or video reflections when adding artifacts in bulk.

ℹ️ Written reflections have a maximum of 5000 characters. Audio and video reflections can be up to 5 minutes long.

Add Artifact for Multiple Students

Upload an artifact to multiple student portfolios at once from the same class.

Step 1: From the Filter Class dropdown, select the class.

Step 2: Check the boxes next to the students who should receive the artifact.

Step 3: Click +Add Artifact. Follow the +Add Artifact steps.

🚨 Double-check your student selection before adding artifacts.
Artifacts cannot be removed in bulk—each one must be deleted individually from each student's portfolio. Accidentally adding artifacts to a large group will require significant manual cleanup. Be sure to review!

    • Revise or add a written reflection, or rerecord or add a video and/or audio reflection.
