With the AI-powered question generator, educators can generate multiple choice, true/false, and short answer questions right in Simple Assessments. Check out the example below:
This feature is available for participating districts; not all users will have this feature enabled. If you are interested in enabling this feature, have your district administration reach out to your Otus Client Experience Partner.
Start by Creating a Simple Assessment:
Step 1: From your Assessments module, select Create Assessment.
Step 2: Select Simple from the Otus Assessment options.
Step 3: Enter an assessment name, select an assessment type, and choose a grading scale.
Step 4: Select Create.
Using the Question Generator
Educators have full control of this process and can review the question, add it to the assessment, or even re-generate a new question if they wish to fine-tune the question’s criteria or explore other options.
Select the option to Generate Question.
❗ Don't see this option? That means your district has not opted-in to this AI feature. If your district is interested in enabling this feature, have your district administration reach out to your Otus Client Experience Partner.
Step 1: Question Type (required)
You can select Multiple Choice, True False, or Short Answer
Step 2: Learning Objective (required)
The Learning Objective is what identifies the content you are looking for. Example learning objectives include:
I want students to identify place value.
Identify the three branches of government.
Compare and contrast the planets of our solar system.
Identify the verb in a sentence.
The phrase "I want students to" is not required, but can be helpful when phrasing a learning objective.
The learning objective can be related to any subject or content area!
Step 3: Select a Standard (optional)
Selecting a standard will further refine the results, but it is not required.
The standard will automatically be linked to the question.
Step 4: Generate Question
Select generate question.
You will see the message "Your question is being written...", which will replaced by the actual question when it is ready.
The question generation process can take anywhere from 1 to 30 seconds; it depends on the complexity of the question type and learning objective. Some generation may take longer than others.
Select Regenerate Question if you would like to see another option for your learning objective.
Once you've added the question, you can continue to edit the question, just like you would a regular Simple Assessment question.
If a question is an AI generated question, you'll notice the star icon to the left of the question number.
Reviewing the Question
Before you add the question directly to the assessment, you can review and make edits to the question as needed.
❗ Important!
As with all AI generated content, please read the results carefully before adding the question to the assessment. You may need to make adjustments to the question or answer options to best fit the needs of your students.

"As a K12 Expert Assessment Consultant, your task is to meticulously design a question that serves as a valid and reliable measurement of student learning. This question must align to the following learning objective and/or standard. Ensure this question is culturally sensitive, inclusive, and accurate. The solution must be precise, accurate, and logical, reflecting the highest standards of educational rigor."
