🎯 Purpose

Staying informed about your child's academic progress shouldn't require chasing down teachers or waiting for report cards. The Otus Family Experience brings together the tools you need to follow your student's growth in real time, from daily assignment completion to long-term performance trends across subjects and standards. This article walks you through key features that help you stay connected to your child's learning and take a proactive role in their academic success.

💡 Why This Matters

When families are informed and engaged, students are more likely to succeed. Otus gives you a clear, organized view of your child's academic world so you can offer support before small problems become big ones.

✅ Spot missing or incomplete work before it impacts your child's grade.
✅ Understand how your child is performing across subjects, not just on one test.
✅ Track growth over time, not just point-in-time snapshots.
✅ Have more meaningful conversations with your child about school.
✅ Reach out to teachers with context and confidence when concerns arise.
✅ Stay involved without having to rely solely on your student to keep you informed.

🔑 Features That Support This Goal

The following features work together to give you a complete picture of your student's academic progress, ensuring you are in the loop on how to help your child succeed.

⚙️ How These Features Work Together

Staying connected to your child's education doesn't have to feel overwhelming. With Otus, you have everything you need to celebrate their wins, offer support when they need it, and stay meaningfully involved in their learning journey.

🏁 Start With the Big Picture

  • The Student Dashboard gives you an immediate overview each time you log in. Think of it as your daily check-in to ensure your child is up to date on their assigned work. No need to rely on student or teacher updates regarding assessment status.

🔎 Dig Deeper by Individual Class

  • From the Classes page, you can navigate into individual classes to see how your child is performing in each class/subject.

How grades appear depends on how your district has configured Otus. You may see one or both of the following:

  • #1 Master Grading Scale: Your child's work is scored using performance levels such as "Mastery," "Approaching Mastery," or similar terms set by your district. Instead of a number or percentage, you'll see a label that describes how well your child has demonstrated understanding of a skill.

  • #2 Points Grading Scale: Your child's work is scored using numeric point values. You'll see a score that reflects how many points they earned on a given assessment.

✏️ Review Assessment Performance

  • Select a Class from the classes page and click View Assessments for the grading scale of your choice. This shows you all assigned work at a glance. Click on the assessment title for a closer look at specific scores and feedback.

📊 Track Standards Skills Over Time

  • The Standards view helps you see beyond individual grades. It shows whether your child is building mastery in the skills that matter most. Use View Standard to understand where they are excelling and where they may need extra support. Click into an individual standard for more detailed information.

📤 Connect with the Teacher

  • If you have questions or concerns about your child's progress, reaching out to their teacher is just a click away. Tap or click the teacher's email address from within the Class page to open your personal email and send a message directly. No need to look up contact information separately.

💡 Tip: Before reaching out, check the Student Dashboard and Assessments sections first. You may find the answer you're looking for without needing to contact the teacher.
