When viewing the standards gradebook, there are multiple ways to filter the data.
❗ Note - all filters are available in admin, teacher, student, and family accounts when viewing the standards gradebook.
By default, the standards gradebook displays:
All standards assessed on all assessments that have a due date within the current grading period.
The default mastery setting chosen by the district in the Main Admin account.
The default grading scale, which will be the first one in the list of available grading scales. Grading scales are listed alphabetically.

Grading Period
Grading Periods provide a means of segmenting the school year. When you enter the standards gradebook, you will always be viewing the current grading period. If your district doesn't have grading periods enabled, your gradebook will include the performance on standards assessed throughout the entire school year.
➡️ Using this filter allows you to view the standards assessed in different grading periods.
💡 Tips from the Otus Team:
Often, someone cannot see a standard or assessment because they aren't in the correct grading period.
The gradebook is based on the due date; the assessment's due date determines which grading period the standard performance falls into.
If an assessment does not have a due date, the graded date is used instead.
Grading Scale
What are Grading Scales?
Consider grading scales as the different levels a student can achieve on a standard. An example scale is Mastery, Near Mastery, Approaching Mastery, Not at Mastery.
➡️ Using this filter allows you to change which grading scale is used to display the overall standard performance.
➡️ See the example below to view how changing the grading scale changes grades:
❗ Important Notes
The available grading scales are determined by the district through the Main Admin account.
The default grading scale will always be the first one in the list; grading scales are listed in alphabetical order.
Grade levels must be set for all classes for the correct grading scales to be available. You can set them in your Class Info tab.
Mastery Setting
What are Mastery Settings?
With standards-based grading, there are different ways to calculate the mastery of a standard. The five ways Otus can calculate the mastery of standards are:
Mean - overall standard performance will be determined based on the average level they perform at.
Mode - overall standard performance will be determined based on the level they perform at the most.
Most Recent - overall performance level will be determined based on the level they achieved most recently.
Highest - overall performance will be determined based on the highest level they've achieved.
Decaying Average - overall performance will be determined using a calculation that is based on an average with more weight given to the more recent scores.
➡️ Using this filter allows you to change which mastery setting is used to calculate the overall standard performance.
➡️ See the example below to view how changing the mastery setting changes the grades:
❗ Important Notes
The available mastery settings are determined by the district through the Main Admin account. Not all accounts will have all five mastery settings available.
The default mastery setting is also determined by the district. Teachers are unable to change the default mastery setting.
Grade levels must be set for all classes to automatically apply the correct mastery settings. You can set them in your Class Info tab.
Filter Standards
By default, all standards assessed on all assessments that have a due date that falls within the current grading period will be displayed.
➡️ Using this filter allows you to isolate individual standards and view the performance level for those standards only.
To Use the Standards Filter:
Step 1: Select the ellipsis in the upper-right corner.
Step 2: Select Filter Standards.
Step 3: Select Clear Filter.
Step 4: Scroll through the available standards or search by the title of the standard, then select the standard(s) you wish to view the data for.
In the example below, the gradebook shows data only for standard CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.7.1.a, since that is the standard that was chosen in the filter.
❓Not seeing a standard you're expecting to see? Check the following:
Grading period and due date: it is possible that the assessment containing that standard has a due date/was graded during a different grading period.
The assessment itself: if you can recall which assessment that standard is supposed to be on, check the actual assessment to confirm that the standard is in fact on that assessment.
Filter Assessments
By default, all assessments that have a due date within the current grading period will display the assessed standards.
➡️ Using this filter allows you to isolate individual assessments and view the performance level for standards on that assessment only.
To Use the Assessments Filter:
Step 1: Select the ellipsis in the upper-right corner.
Step 2: Select Filter Assessments.
Step 3: Select Clear Filter.
Step 4: Scroll through the available assessments or search by the title of the assessment. Then select the assessment(s) you wish to view the data for.
In the example below, after choosing the assessment Chapter 6, the gradebook shows data only for CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.7.1.d , since that was the only standard on the assessment.
If a column is blank, that means that particular standard was not assessed on the selected assessment.
❓Not seeing an assessment you're expecting to see? Check the following:
Grading period and due date: it is possible that the assessment has a due date/was graded during a different grading period.
The assessment itself: check the actual assessment to confirm that there are standards attached.
