🎯 Purpose
Panel Grading for rubric assessments allows multiple educators to grade a student’s rubric assessment. This allows for the standardized administration and grading of the Defense of Learning (DoL) presentations by the fifth, eighth, and twelfth-grade students at Jefferson County Public Schools. Each panelist's score is averaged to calculate the student's final grade.

🔑 Key Roles in Panel Grading
Role | Responsibilities |
Teacher of Record | Assigns the assessment, manages panelists, and grades each student's rubric |
Panelist | Reviews and scores each student's presentation using the assigned rubric |
Administrator | Can add or remove panelists at any time, including after the assessment is assigned |
⚠️ Before You Begin
Students:
Students should only be assigned the Defense of Learning assessment once. Panel scores from multiple instances of the same assessment cannot be merged.
Example: If Student A is assigned the DoL assessment three times and different panelists are added to each instance, their scores will be stored in three separate containers and cannot be combined into a single panel average.
Panelists:
Ensure all panelists are added before the grading session begins to prevent disruptions. Educators not properly configured as panelists can view aggregated scores but cannot input scores directly.
Defense of Learning assessments are managed in the assigned assessments list for each applicable class. Panelists can be added or removed at any time by the teacher of record or any school administrator.
✏️ Grade a DoL Rubric
Defense of Learning rubric assessments are graded for each student by the teacher of record and the educators assigned as panelists.
Occasionally, scoring issues arise such as panelists being unable to score assessments or only viewing the "Panel Average." These often occur if the panelist is not properly added to the assessment.

Students have access to review their panel average or total score for their Defense of Learning assessment. They can view their average for each standard and their overall score for the assessment.
🔧 Troubleshoot: Panelist Access Issues
If you see a "Panel Average" view but are unable to input scores, follow these steps to gain access:
Step 1: Open the assessment Settings from the ellipsis menu in the top-right corner.
Step 2: Scroll to the Panel Grading section.
Step 3: Search your name in the Select Panelists field and add yourself as a panelist.
Step 4: Save changes to enable scoring access.
