When creating an **advanced** **assessment**, one of the available categories is for math questions. Essentially, there are three variations of math questions:

💡 **Tip from the Otus Team:** when in doubt, choose **Cloze** **Math**! It is the simplest math question to build, and allows for the most flexible scoring options.

**Cloze Questions**

Have the most

**flexible****scoring**.Can have

**multiple****lines**of answer entry.Allows

**multiple****responses boxes**for a single question, and those responses can be**scored****separately**.

*Cloze Math*

The student **enters a math response** into one or more response boxes.

*Cloze Math with Image*

The student **enters a math response** into one or more response boxes on an **image**.

*Math Essay with Rich Text*

The student can input both text **and** math formulas/symbols within the same response, usually when a response needs further explanation.

**Formula Math Questions**

Allows for more

**advanced****scoring**.Can have only a

**single****line**of answer entry.Allows

**multiple****response****boxes**for a single question, but those responses are**scored****in****conjunction**with one another; they are**unable**to be**scored****separately**.

*Math Formula*

In this question type, students will be able to input any answer that makes the statement(s) true.

*Math Fill in the Blanks*

This question type is **identical** to **Math** **Formula**, except that when you build it, there are t**wo response boxes in the template** by default.

*Math with Text*

This question type is **identical** to **Math** **Formula**, except that when you build it, there is **text in the template** by default.

*Math with Units*

This question type is **identical** to **Math** **Formula**, except that when you build it, there is **text related to units of measurement** in the template by default.

*Math with Fractions*

This question type is **identical** to **Math** **Formula**, except that when you build it, there are **fractions in the template** by default.

*Math with Matrices*

This question type is **identical** to **Math** **Formula**, except that when you build it, there are matrices in the template by default.

**Desmos Math Questions**

Desmos questions are on separate tabs, marked with the green Desmos symbol. These question types are created using the Desmos Builder, and are the most advanced math question types.
