An assessment can be unassigned at any time from an entire class or from just a few students. The process below outlines how to unassign an assessment from an entire class. To learn how to unassign from individual students within a class, visit our Manage Assignees article.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Unassigning an assessment will permanently delete any student grades and data attached to that assessment. Please use caution when unassigning assessments.

To Unassign an Assessment:

  • Step 1: Navigate to your Assessments module.

  • Step 2: Select Assigned.

  • Step 3: Choose the correct class.

  • Step 4: Select the ellipsis to the right of the desired assessment.

  • Step 5: Select Unassign.

  • Step 6: Unassigning an assessment PERMANENTLY deletes the data. This can not be undone. To permanently delete the student response data, type the exact name of the assessment in the field and choose Unassign.

Why is the unassign button still gray or inactive after typing in the assessment name?

If you’ve typed in the name of the assessment, but the unassign button is not functioning, it’s likely due to a typo or a slight mismatch. The assessment name entered in the unassign field needs to be an exact match and is case-sensitive. Ensure there are no additional spaces before or after. For an alternative approach, you can highlight the name, copy it, and then paste the assessment name into the unassign field.
