Does your district use standards that are not included in the default group of standards available? You can add those as custom standards two different ways.

  • Option 1: Manual Creation in the Control Center

    • Completed in the Main Admin account only

    • Recommended when adding a small amount of standards

  • Option 2: Bulk Upload Using our Template

    • Completed by the Otus team

    • Recommended for a large amount of standards

    • Requires the completion of a template that is then submitted to our team for processing

💡Tip: Custom standards can be edited or deleted directly from the Control Center.

Add Custom Standards

Adding custom standards allows teachers to use standards other than those that are part of the common core or state standards. Custom Standards can be added manually in the Control Center or uploaded by our team from a completed template.

Option 1: Manual Creation in the Control Center

To add custom standards manually from the Main Admin account, follow the steps below:

  • Step 1: Navigate to the Control Center.

  • Step 2: On the Grading page, select the Standards Settings tab.

  • Step 3: Select Create Standard.

  • Step 4: Enter the following information:

    • Title

    • Subject

    • Grade - select all grades to which the standard applies

    • Description - body or full description of the standard (optional)

  • Step 5: Save & Repeat

    • Select the Save button.

    • Repeat the same process with your other custom standards.

Option 2: Bulk Upload Using our Template

  • Step 2: Fill out the template.

    • It is important to leave all headings unchanged, as it is sent to you specifically formatted.

    • Type the Subject, Title, and Description

    • Type an 'x' into the grade level(s) that should be attached to the standard

    • The image below shows an example:

  • Step 3: Send the template back to us

    • Save your template with a file name that includes your district name.

    • If you downloaded the CSV and completed it on your device, make sure to save it as a .csv file.

    • Send the file or the link to your Google copy to support@otus.com or your Otus CXP.

  • Step 4: Confirm the Upload

    • We'll notify you when the standards upload is completed and request that you verify that the standards look correct.

Does editing a custom standard impact any data that has been collected on that standard?

What should I do if I notice duplicates of a custom standard?

Since duplicates of a standard can cause complications when analyzing data, we recommend the following steps.

  1. Rename one of the duplicate standards so that it can be easily differentiated from the other.

  2. Identify if any data has been collected on the duplicate standard. You can use Standards Analytics to see if the standard has been assessed and to locate the assessment(s) the standard is linked to.

  3. If the duplicate standard has been used to collect data, link the correct standard to the assessments first and then unlink the duplicate standard.

  4. Once all assessments have been linked to the correct standard, you can delete the duplicate standard.
