Standards Report Card

Generate a report card that includes grades from the standards view of the gradebook.

Written by Monica Burke

This article will show you how to generate a report card that includes standards-based data only. Report cards can only be generated in admin or main admin accounts. You can include both assessments and standards data on a report card, but this article will focus on standards-based report cards.

💡 Pro-Tip: Report cards cover current classes by default. To capture a student's previous academic sessions or previous school years, enable Include archived data. Left off, the report will only reflect actively rostered classes.

💡 Color Display

Mastery-level bar charts will print in color for grading scales using one of the available 10 preset color options.

🎨 Want colors to appear?

Follow the directions here to update the grading scale color.

Be sure to adjust only the color. Changing any other grading scale settings may affect your existing data.

General Information:

  • The student name appears in the upper-left corner in large text on the first page.

  • The name of the class is listed, along with the last name of the teacher (co-teachers are not listed on report cards).

  • Classes are listed in alpha-numeric order.

  • Assessment details are not included on standards gradebook report cards.

  • Standards are listed in alpha-numeric order based on the name of the standard (not the description of the standard).

Where to Start

Navigate to the Analytics module, select Report Cards at the bottom of the list, then choose Create Report Card.

The Report Card page has five general areas:

  • Basic Info

  • Dates & Students

  • Performance

  • Details

  • File Format

Basic Info

  • Title - the title appears on the left-hand side under the student name and site.

  • Language - you can choose between English, Spanish, or Chinese.

  • Student ID (optional) - appears at the top of each report card when selected.

  • School Logo

    • Should be no larger than 25mb

    • Should be square for best results - example: 500x500px

Dates & Students

Required Fields: Appears at the top of each student's report card

  • Site (school)

  • Date range

Additional Filters (optional):

  • Teachers: Selecting teachers will only generate report cards for students enrolled in those teachers' classes.

  • Groups: Selecting student groups will only generate report cards for students enrolled in those groups.

  • Grade Levels: Selecting grade levels will only generate report cards for students enrolled in those grade levels.

  • Students: Selecting students will only generate report cards for those students. Type the first three letters of the student's name to see the dropdown list populate with student names.

  • Include archived data: Report cards cover current classes by default. To capture a student's previous academic sessions or previous school years, enable Include archived data. Left off, the report will only reflect actively rostered classes.

Special Notes:

  • When selecting a student group, students that were enrolled in that group at any point during the selected time frame will be included in the report card.

  • Sometimes there won't be any students that populate for the report card; it most often leads back to the above settings being too specific. We recommend leaving these fields set to All when possible. For more information, check out the Common Troubleshooting Tips section below!

  • If the report card doesn't contain expected grades, it could be because the assessment date is not within the date range selected. See the Common Troubleshooting Steps section below for more information.

Performance

This article is specifically for the Standards gradebook, but you can choose to include more than one grading scale per report card, including the points grading scale. For more information on running report cards for points-based grades (called the "points gradebook" here), check out this article.

Click the toggle next to the grading scale(s) you'd like to include. You will then be required to choose the Mastery Setting and Standards to use. Optionally, you can choose to include the Total Grade and Grading Scale Key.

  • Mastery Setting: The options for Mastery Settings are Mean, Mode, Most Recent, Highest, or Decaying Average. The available options here are determined by your district's settings; you may not have all of the previously listed options.

  • Standards: If you are using Standards Tags, this is where you will choose those tags. If you are not using tags, we recommend choosing Select All.

  • Total Grade: If your district has Total Grade Conversion enabled for the Grading Scale selected, this option will become available. The total grade will appear at the top of each class as determined by those conversion settings

  • Grading Scale Key: displays the Grading Scale descriptions as written in the Main Admin account. The name and description of the performance levels are displayed in a table at the top of the first page of each student's report card.

Special Notes

  • Not seeing expected grades? If the report card doesn't contain expected grades, it could be because certain assessments did not use the grading scale or standards selected. See the Common Troubleshooting Tips below for more details.

  • Standards Gradebook Override Information: If your district has enabled the option for teachers to manually adjust the final calculation of a student's grade in the standards gradebook, that override will appear on the report card. It will not have any indication of being an overridden score. For more information, please see the Standards Gradebook Override article.

Details (Optional)

Attendance, Notes, & Grading Scale Key

  • Attendance: displays the number of tardies and absences for each class.

    • If attendance data does not exist, no attendance section will be listed in the generated report card.

  • Teacher Notes: displays notes from the student profile. The note must have the "Include in Report Card" option checked. The contents of the note, last name of the teacher, and the date stamp are shown below the list of standards for each class.

  • Family and/or Student Signatures: These will appear at the end of each student's report card, just after the last class.

  • Footer Message: Displays at the bottom of every Report Card page.

File Format

You can choose to download the Report Cards in a Single PDF or a ZIP File with an individual PDF per student.

  • Single PDF: generates one PDF with every student's report card.

  • ZIP File: generates one ZIP File containing an individual PDF for each student.

    • Check the boxes next to the elements you wish to include in the file name.

Once the report cards are complete, click Export. You will be returned to the Report Cards Page while they process. Once they're complete, click the Download Icon.

Blank Pages

  • If you choose to download the report cards in a single PDF, there will be a blank page that follows after each student's report card. Blank pages are there to allow for double-sided printing. This is so two students' report cards don't appear back-to-back on the same piece of paper if double-sided printing is desired.

  • Even if you don't need to print double-sided, we recommend using that setting anyway; this ensures you won't be printing "blank" pages.

Special Notes

  • Does the number of report cards seem incorrect? Check out the first tip in FAQ and Troubleshooting section below.

  • Can't find the file? Check your browser's download history.

To see a very thorough list of report card troubleshooting issues and solutions, check out the article linked below:

What should I do if no students populate for the report card?

Ensure that the settings for teachers, groups, grade levels, and students are not too specific and consider leaving them set to "All" when possible.

Why are expected grades missing from the report card?

Check if the assessment date falls within the selected date range.

What is the difference between including assessment details or just the percentage on the report card?

Including assessment details will display a list of assessments with type, submission date, and grade, while including only the percentage will show the overall class percentage.

Why are there blank pages on some report cards?

Blank pages are included to allow for double-sided printing, ensuring that two students' report cards don't appear back to back on the same page.

What should I do if I can't find the generated file or if there was an error while generating the report cards?

Check your downloads folder. If there was an error, refer to this article.
