The TextHelp Speechstream toolbar is available in Advanced Assessments and includes tools such as text-to-speech and dictionaries.

For Students:

If your teacher turned on the TextHelp toolbar for your assessment, you will see this at the top of your assessment:

This toolbar has these features:

You can move the toolbar anywhere on the screen by using this button:


Text-to-Speech Read Aloud

If you are using read-aloud, you have a few options for settings.

  • Voice Speed: You can have it read to you slow, medium, or fast.

  • Text Highlight: As the text is spoken, it will be highlighted. You can choose which color the text is highlighted in.

  • Speech Mode: You can choose to have the text spoken when you click on it or when you hover over it.

  • Translations: You can change both of these options to any of these languages: English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish.

How To Use the Read-Aloud Tool

These buttons are used for the read-aloud tool:

Step 1️⃣ : Click the pointer icon.

Step 2️⃣ : Click on a word.

Step 3️⃣ : Listen and watch. It reads from the start of the sentence.

Step 4️⃣ : Click Pause or Stop when you want it to stop reading.

Step 5️⃣ : To turn off the read-aloud, click the pointer icon again.


Talking Single-Word Translator

This will translate a single word for you.

Step 1️⃣ : Select a word. You can click and drag the cursor, or double-click on the word.

Step 2️⃣ : Click the translator icon.

Step 3️⃣ : The translation is there for you to read.


Talking Dictionary

This will show you the definition of a word.

Step 1️⃣ : Select a word. You can click and drag the cursor or double-click on the word.

Step 2️⃣ : Click the book icon.

Step 3️⃣ : To have the definition read aloud to you, click the play button next to the definition.


Picture Dictionary

This will show you the definition of a word in the form of a picture.

Step 1️⃣ : Select a word. You can click and drag the cursor, or double-click on the word.

Step 2️⃣ : Click the picture icon.


Highlighters

You can use highlighters on your test.

Step 1️⃣ : Select the text that you want to highlight. You can click and drag the cursor or double-click on the word.

Step 2️⃣ : Click on the highlighter icon.

Step 3️⃣ : Choose the color highlighter you want.

Step 4️⃣ : To erase your highlighter, select the text. Then click on the paintbrush icon.

Step 5️⃣ : If you have a lot of highlighted text you want to see together, click the collect icon.
