How to add video or audio recordings to an activity within a lesson.

Do you have a video or audio recording you'd like students to use in a lesson? You've come to the right place!

Size Limits

  • If the video or audio is recorded directly within Otus, there is a time limit of 5 minutes.

  • If the video or audio is uploaded, there is a maximum file size of 30mb.

  • After you've created the lesson, add an Activity and select Add Resource.


Video

Step 1: Select the Video button.

Step 2: Choose how you want to add your video.

  • If you want to add a video that is already on your device, select Browse. The maximum file size Is 30mb.

  • If you want to record a live video with your device, select Record Video. The video can be up to 5 minutes long.

If choosing to record a live video, follow steps 3-6. If you are adding a video that is already on your device, skip these steps.

Step 3: Select the camera icon.

Step 4: Select the record button.

Step 5: When you are done recording, select the stop button.

Step 6: Add a name to your video recording, then select Save.

Are you using an iPad? iPads do not support recording video directly into Otus. You can upload a video file, but you won't be able to record directly into Otus.

  • Last, add an Activity Title and Instructions, then click Save.

When the student accesses this activity, the video will be displayed and the student will just need to click play.

Audio

(after you've selected Add Resource)

Step 1: Select the Audio button.

Step 2: Choose how you want to add your audio.

  • If you want to add audio that is already on your device, select Browse. The maximum file size is 30mb.

  • If you want to record live audio with your device, select Record Audio. The audio recording can be up to 5 minutes long.

If choosing to record a live video, follow steps 3-6. If you are adding a video that is already on your device, skip these steps.

Step 3: Select the microphone icon.

Step 4: Select the record button.

Step 5: When you are done recording, select the stop button.

Step 6: Add a name to your audio recording, then select Save.

Are you using an iPad? iPads do not support recording audio directly into Otus. You can upload a video file, but you won't be able to record directly into Otus.

  • Last, add an Activity Tile, Instructions, and an optional image. Then select Save.

Can students add video or audio to a lesson activity?

Students are not able to add video or audio to lesson activities while completing lessons at this time. Students can, however, add video and audio to rubric assessments.

What is the time limit for video and audio recorded directly in the activity?

5 minutes for both.

What is the size limit for video and audio I upload into the activity?

30 MB for both.

What if my video/audio file exceeds the time and file size limits?

We recommend uploading the video to a third party host, such as Google Drive or YouTube, then sharing a link to the video in the activity.

What if it says my video/audio file is an unsupported format?

Try using this website to convert your file.

If I record video/audio directly within a lesson, can I download it onto my computer?

A video recorded in Otus can not be downloaded onto your computer.

When I record video/audio directly within a lesson, can I use it again in another lesson?

Yes. The video will be automatically added to your Bookshelf. You can then use it in other lessons.

How do I re-record video/audio after I've already created the activity?

While you can't re-record directly within the activity, you can create another activity and record the video there.
