Now that you've started to build an advanced assessment, you may want to add a Rating question.

The Rating question is useful for obtaining student feedback, or as a rubric for use by the teacher when providing feedback to the student.

❗ This question is not scored; adding a rating question does not add to the point total of your advanced assessment.

Build the Question

If you are creating a new item, select the + Create button on the assessment builder, title the item, then select the Add New plus sign to add a question.

If you are adding to an existing item, simply select the Add New plus sign (as shown above) to add a question to the item.

Next, select the Other category from the options on the left, then choose Rating.

Compose the Question

Type question prompt into this field.

You have many formatting options from the Rich Text toolbar, including changing the font size, adding tables, using math symbols, adding multimedia, and more! Click here for more information on the different functions of the Rich Text toolbar.

Add Rating Options

Under each rating heading, you can fill in the details for each button on the rating bar.
- Value: The number entered here will be stored as the response if this Rating is selected.
- Label: This refers to the label on each Rating button. This can be text or numbers.
- Tooltip: The input from this field will be displayed when the cursor hovers over a Rating.
- Color: This refers to the color of the label when it appears in the information box beside the Rating bar. You can pick colors from the color library, enter a specific hex code, and change the opacity.
- Description: This is displayed inside the information box, alongside the button label, and tooltip, to give information about each Rating.

To add additional rating options, select the + Add button. To remove a rating option, select the trash can icon.

Additional Options

Expand the More Options menu to see additional settings for Font Size and Hide Info icon.
- Font Size: you can change the font size to small, normal, large, extra large, or huge.
- Hide Info icon: ticking this box hides the information button which appears to the left of the rating options.

Student Preview

It's highly recommended to Preview the question before adding it to the assessment. This displays the question as the students will see it and also verifies that the answers and scoring work as expected.
