One optional setting when assigning advanced assessments is the ability to enable a calculator. When this setting is turned on, students will have access to a calculator for the entire assessment.

Calculator access can be enabled in the assessment settings while assigning the assessment.

Enable Calculator

Step 1: Select the assessment you'd like to assign from your drafts list.

Step 2: Click the ellipsis to the right of the desired assessment and choose Assign.

Step 3: After determining the students, due dates, start dates, availability windows, and instructions, check the box to enable the calculator for the entire assessment.

Step 4: Choose from one of the three calculators:

  • Basic: Four-function calculator

  • Extended: Basic functions plus percentage (%) and square root (√).

  • Scientific: Advanced functions (exponents, trig). Opens in Radians or Degrees.

Step 4: Select Assign to make the assessment available to your students.

Student View

While taking the assessment, students will see a calculator icon on the right-hand side, beneath the response masking icon. Clicking the calculator icon opens or closes the calculator as needed.
