Building a fair and consistent grading experience for all students can be complex, especially when grading takes time. The Post Grades feature gives you control over when assessment grades and feedback are released to students and families, helping you manage your process and ensure everyone receives information at the same time.
Manage When Grades Are Posted
While on the Assign page, scroll down to the Post Grade Settings section to view the grade release options.
Post immediately is turned on by default. This means students and families will be able to view scores as soon as you grade each assessment.
If you select Hide Until Posted, scores will be hidden from students and families until you post them. You'll still see the grades in your gradebook.
🚨 You cannot go back and edit this setting once you've assigned the assessment. Please be sure you've selected the correct option before proceeding.
Hidden Grades
When assessments are hidden, a hidden icon appears in multiple locations to indicate that grades are not visible to students and families.
Assigned Assessment | Assessment Gradebook |
Individual Assessment Gradebook | Individual Standards Gradebook |
Student and Family View
Graded assignments remain in the Turned In status until grades are posted.
Students and families do not receive a Home Page notification when an assignment is graded but not yet posted.
Teacher and Admin
When an assessment is graded, teachers and administrators see the scores immediately in the gradebook, as if the hidden setting were not enabled.
If your district uses Grade Passback, graded assignments are not passed back to your Student Information System until they are posted.
Post Grades
After grading at least one student’s assignment, you’ll have the option to post grades.
Step 1: From the Assigned Assessments page, click the ellipsis menu next to the assignment, then select Post Grades.
Step 2: Click Post Grades to confirm.
Step 3: Once you click Post Grades, you'll see a confirmation message.
Students and Families will now see scores in the gradebook and receive a notification on their Home Page feed.
🚨 Posting grades is a permanent action and cannot be undone.
