Create or Remove a Teacher Account

Manually create a new teacher account or remove an existing teacher account.

Please Note: If your district syncs Otus to your SIS (Student Information System) for rostering, new teacher accounts will automatically be created in Otus when the teacher is added to your SIS. In such cases, the methods described below may not be available to your district, or may be useful only for classes that do not exist in your SIS.

Teacher accounts can be created by teacher and administrator accounts. They can be removed by any administrator account.


Create a Teacher Account

If your district does not sync Otus to your SIS, follow the steps below to create a teacher account.

Teacher accounts are created when the user is added to a class for the first time.

There are three ways to create a teacher account:

  1. When an administrator adds the teacher to a new class for the first time.

  2. When the main administrator changes the main teacher of a class.

  3. When an administrator or teacher adds a co-teacher to a class.

Add a Teacher to a New Class

  • Step 1: From an administrator account, navigate to the District module.

  • Step 2: Select Sites.

  • Step 3: Click Add Class.

  • Step 4: Type the main teacher's email address in the Add Teacher by Email field (required), or type the co-teacher's email address in the Add Co-Teacher by Email field, and click Add.

  • Step 5: Select Yes to create the account.

  • Step 6: Fill out the requested fields, then click Save. All fields are required except the phone number.

Change the Teacher of a Class

  • Step 1: From the main administrator account, navigate to the Classes module.

  • Step 2: Click the Class Info tab.

  • Step 3: Select the correct class.

  • Step 4: Click the X to clear the Teacher field.

  • Step 5: Type the new teacher's email address into the Teacher field and click Add.

  • Step 6: Select "Yes" to create the account.

  • Step 7: Enter the teacher's account information and click Save.

Add a Co-Teacher to a Class

  • Step 1: From a teacher or administrator account, navigate to the Classes module.

  • Step 2: Click the Class Info tab.

  • Step 3: Select the correct class.

  • Step 4: Type the teacher's email address in the Add Co-Teacher by Email field and click Add.

  • Step 5: Select Yes to create the account.

  • Step 6: Enter the teacher's account information and click Save.


Remove a Teacher Account

❗If an administrator creates or removes a teacher account, that change will take place globally. Removing a teacher account will not permanently delete the account, but it will hide it for all users.

  • Step 1: Navigate to the District module.

  • Step 2: Select Teachers.

  • Step 3: Scroll or use the search bar to locate the teacher you wish to remove.

  • Step 4: Select the trashcan icon on their tile.

  • Step 5: Click OK to confirm that you would like to remove the teacher.

What should I do if a teacher is removed accidentally?

If a teacher is removed accidentally, please contact the Otus Support Team using the chat feature to have the teacher's tile restored.

If my district syncs Otus to our SIS and a teacher leaves the district, will they be removed automatically?

When a teacher leaves the district, they are not automatically removed, even if your district syncs Otus to an SIS. Their classes will be archived, but the teacher's tile and account will still be available. Click here for more information about how to prepare for a teacher to leave the district.
