## Description

The Number Line Drag & Drop allows students to drag points or images onto a number line.

## Create a Question

Enter the question stem into the **Compose question** area. Below you will see the **Line** section where you can configure basic number line parameters.

Add **Minimum** and **Maximum** values of the number line. You can also enter the number line title. The title will be displayed underneath the number line unless otherwise specified (see Layout). Then list possible responses to be dragged on the number line. Click on **+Add** if you need to add a new response field. Click on the trash icon beside a response to remove it.

Now configure validation for your question. Follow these steps to set up score and correct response:

Insert value in the

**Point(s)**box to set up a mark for the question. The default value is set to 1.In the

**Correct**tab you will see the number line you just created and a container with possible response options. In order to validate the question drag and drop correct responses on the number line. See example in Figure 3.

## Layout

In this section various styling an be applied to the question. You can add custom **Width** and **Height**values in order to set the dimensions of the drawn area. Values should be given in pixels, height can also be set to "auto". This will scale the drawn area automatically based on the contents.

**Number Line margin** defines the distance between the number line extremes and the borders of the drawn area. This should also be given in pixels.

Authors can also set **Line position**, which will define where the number line appears in the container.

Setting a value for the **Title position** will define the number line title position in the container. For example, if the title position is set to 1% the title will appear at the top. The same applies to the **Points box position**. This sets the position of the number line points container.

**Points separation distance x** and **Points separation distance y** are values that define horizontal and vertical position of the points in the container.

**Show Left Arrow** and **Show Right Arrow** toggles enable the respective arrows on the number line.

## Ticks

The **Ticks** section provides options to configure ticks on the number line.

The **Show Ticks** toggle controls the visibility of ticks on the number line. **Snap to ticks** makes possible responses snap to the nearest tick on the number line.

Insert a value in the **Ticks Distance** field - you can insert whole numbers, standard or decimal fractions, or mixed numbers.

If fractions are used as distance value **Fractions format** should be specified. This will define how fractions are rendered on the number line:

*Not normalized and mixed fractions*- displays only not normalized and mixed fractions.*Normalized and mixed fractions*- displays only normalized and mixed fractions.*Improper fractions*- displays only improper fractions.

**Rendering base** should be defined if label frequency is greater than 1. This option will determine if labels will render from zero or Line Minimum Value.

## Labels

Here you can specify number line label options. Enable **Show min** and **Show max** if you want the labels to be drawn on the minimum and maximum values of the number line.

You can also define the **Label Frequency** with which to draw the labels. For instance, if the frequency is set to 1, the labels will be added to every tick in the number line. If frequency is set to 2, the labels will be drawn every second tick. You can also add specific points that should be labeled. For this insert a value in the **Show Specific Label Points** field. In case you have more than one value separate them with commas.
