Replicate a Scantron or Bubble Sheet Assessment in Otus

Learn how to create an assessment that works similar to a bubble sheet or Scantron.

We know that as teachers you often have printed test booklets that you’d like to reuse from year to year. Did you know you can still have students use your test booklet as a guide and then input only their answers in Otus, similar to a Scantron or bubble sheet assessment? Then any multiple-choice or true/false questions will be auto-scored for you.


Create a Simple Assessment

  • Step 1: Select the Assessment module

  • Step 2: Select Create Assessment

  • Step 3: Select Simple

  • Step 4: Enter details

    • Assessment Name

    • Select Assessment Type

    • Select Grading Scale

  • Step 5: Click Create


Add Questions

  • Select + Add Question

  • Choose Question Type

Multiple Choice

  • Step 1: Type the question number in the question field as the actual question.

  • Step 2: Fill in the answer options that correspond to the answer options in your paper assessment.

  • Step 3: Select the correct answer.

  • Step 4: Click + Answer Option to add additional answer choices.

  • Step 5: Link a standard if you wish to collect that data.

  • Step 6: Enter a point value.

  • Step 7: Add Question at the top right corner to save and add to the assessment.

True/False Question

  • Step 1: Type the question number in the question field as the actual question.

  • Step 2: Select the correct answer by clicking on true or false.

  • Step 3: Link a standard if you wish to collect that data.

  • Step 4: Enter a point value.

  • Step 5: Add Question at the top right corner to save and add to the assessment.

Short Answer

  • Step 1: Type the question number in the question field as the actual question.

  • Step 2: Link a standard if you wish to collect that data.

  • Step 3: Enter a point value.

  • Step 4: Add Question at the top right corner to save and add to the assessment.


Duplicate and Edit

Now that you have created the first question, we will use this as our question template. We will now duplicate the question and make the necessary changes.

  • Step 1: First duplicate question 1.

  • Step 2: Edit question 2 to make the appropriate changes.

    • Edit the question text to be the correct question number.

    • Select the correct answer.

    • Link or change a standard if needed.

    • Change the point value if needed.

  • Step 3: Click Save at the top right corner.


Complete Your Assessment

By repeating these steps, you can create a full assessment for students to input answers based on a paper test.

  • Here is what the student will see when taking the assessment in Otus.

Scoring Information

  • Multiple choice and true/false questions will be scored automatically based on the correct answers you selected.

  • Short answer questions require manual grading by the teacher.
