Once an assessment has been assigned, you can change any of the settings made when the assessment was initially assigned, such as due dates, time limits, or availability windows.

View and Edit Settings

  • Step 1: Navigate to your Assessments module.

  • Step 2: Select your Assigned page.

  • Step 3: Select the class that you assigned the assessment to. Note - if you assigned it to more than one class at the same time, you will need to adjust the settings for each class separately. Settings changed for one class will not apply to the others.

  • Step 4: Select the ellipsis to the right of the desired assessment.

  • Step 5: Select Settings.

  • Step 6: Adjust any desired settings, then click Save.

What Happens when the Settings are Changed?

  • If students don't turn in an assignment by the due date, it is marked missing in the Gradebook. If the due date is extended, it will automatically adjust the missing status.

  • If a start date is not initially assigned, but later added, the assessment will be removed from the students' list until that start date has approached.

  • Adding or extending availability windows is possible but must be done prior to the end of the last window in order for the changes to take effect. Once the last availability window ends, assessments auto-submit. Once that has happened, changing availability windows has no effect on the assessments since they've already been submitted.

  • Students will see edits to instructions when they start the assessment.

  • This setting can be toggled on or off before, during, or after the students have taken the assessment. It does not impact the way the student takes the assessment. It simply adds or removes the score from the calculation of their final grade.

  • This setting can be toggled on or off before, during, or after the students have taken the assessment. On allows them to view their assessment results. Off locks the assessment so they cannot view it after it's been graded.

  • When Allow Post Grading Review is enabled, the Show Correct Answers setting can also be toggled on or off. For auto-graded questions, on will allow students to see the correct answers for any questions they missed. Off will not show the correct answers.

  • This setting can be toggled on or off before, during, or after the students have taken the assessment. On enables the Lockdown Browser. Off disables the Lockdown Browser. Note - The student must have the Respondus Lockdown Browser installed on their device in order to utilize this feature. Check with your admin team if you are unsure if it is available to your students.

  • You can change this setting even after students have started the assessment. If students are currently working on the assessment, they need to save/exit the assessment and then re-open it in order for the changes to take effect.

  • You can change this setting even after students have started the assessment. If students are currently working on the assessment, they need to save/exit the assessment and then re-open it in order for the changes to take effect.

  • If a time limit is added or changed while students are taking the assessment, students have to save/exit and re-enter the assessment for the new time limit to take effect. It automatically adjusts to the new time limit by deducting the amount of time they've already spent in the assessment.

  • This setting can be toggled on or off before, during, or after the student submits the assessment. If this setting is toggled on after the assessment has been graded, the students will be able to take the assessment again, but it will overwrite their previous scores.

  • Students can work on and submit an assessment that has been graded and marked "Missing." This is set to On by default. Off disables the ability for students to return to work on their assessment after the teacher has graded the assessment and marked it "Missing."

  • This setting is determined by your administrator. It is only available on assessments that were assigned to your class from an administrator account. If this box is checked, that means the data from this assessment will aggregate in Assessment Analytics. You aren't able to edit this setting.

  • This setting only applies to advanced assessments that utilize standards-based grading scales (non-points). This feature allows teachers or administrators to set the default score a student receives for auto-graded questions.

  • If you edit this setting after the assessment has been assigned, you receive a message explaining that this only applies to future scores, not scores already collected.
